Read MoreAs an Autism Mom Coach in Dubai, I often help families navigate conversations about autism with younger siblings. When a child asks, “Mommy, why doesn't my brother play with me?” or “Why does he push me away?”, it can be difficult to find the right words.
I've explained to Jude that Charlie has autism, but what does that mean to a 3-year-old? I tell him Charlie has different abilities and needs than his other friends and that, even if Charlie doesn't always show it, he does love him. Through my work with Lumina Paths Coaching, I support families across Autism in UAE, helping siblings build understanding and meaningful connections.
The Benefits of Having an Autistic Brother
While it's heartbreaking to see Jude feel rejected when Charlie pulls away, there are so many beautiful lessons in their relationship. Jude has learned to accept differences with an open heart. He is compassionate and naturally wants to make people happy. He is the kind of child who checks on others when they look sad.
Jude always sticks by Charlie, even when things are hard. I truly believe he will grow up to be a loyal and patient friend—qualities I encourage in all families I work with as an Autism Coach in Dubai. He understands when certain situations overwhelm Charlie, even if they don't affect him in the same way. If things get too loud, he gently covers Charlie's ears to block out the noise. These small acts of kindness are what make sibling relationships so special.
Celebrating Small Victories
Jude seems wise beyond his years. My heart melts when he rushes to me, beaming, “Mommy! Charlie said hi to me!” That pride he feels for his brother, I feel too. At Lumina Paths Coaching, we celebrate every milestone, no matter how small, because we know how much effort goes into each step forward.
As parents, we aren't perfect—I certainly am not. Some days are chaotic, and I take shortcuts just to get through. But at the end of the day, I see my two little boys growing into incredible humans. Through my work supporting families with Autism in UAE, I encourage other parents to embrace the imperfections while celebrating the love, patience, and resilience that come with raising both autistic and neurotypical children.
At Lumina Paths Coaching, we are here to guide families in Dubai and beyond, fostering understanding and connection between autistic children and their siblings.
